What to Expect From an AI Sound Effect Generator

An AI sound effect generator makes a sound from a sentence you write. With AI Sound Effects, you describe the sound, tap Generate, and get a new effect you can play, save, or share.

Once you tap Generate, your new sound appears under Your sound, ready to play, and it’s saved to your Library. From there you can keep it, share it, or generate another take.

Here’s what you’ll hear, why results change from one try to the next, and what to do with the sounds you make.

Expect a new sound effect made from your description, up to 12 seconds long and a little different every time you generate it.

A new sound made from your words

AI Sound Effects doesn’t search a sound library or record anything. It generates a new sound from your description, so “old wooden door creaking open slowly” becomes a creak made for that sentence.

Your words are the main thing the AI works from, so what you hear depends on what you write.

Every sound is a new take

Each sound is generated fresh, so the same prompt can give you a different result each time. Two takes on “cracking thunder with a deep rolling rumble” might differ in how sharp the crack is or how long the rumble lasts.

Use that to your advantage. Generate two or three versions, play them back in your Library, and keep the one that fits. A sound you like stays in your Library until you delete it, because generating again won’t give you that exact sound back.

The result may not match what you imagined

Sometimes a sound comes back close but not right: the rain is too light, or the whoosh sounds more like wind. The AI interprets your words, and a short prompt leaves a lot for it to guess.

Try one more take first. If it still misses, tweak your prompt or the Creativity setting and generate again.

How to Write a Sound Effect Prompt

Each sound is up to 12 seconds

A single sound can be up to 12 seconds long, which is plenty for a door slam, a jump, or a short burst of ambience.

For a longer scene, generate it in parts. A storm could be one sound for the rain, one for the thunder, and one for the wind, which you then line up in your video or game editor.

Keep, share, or try again

Every sound you generate is saved to the Library on your device as a WAV file. Tap play to listen, or tap ··· on a sound for Copy Prompt, Save to Files, and Share. To delete a sound, swipe it to the left.

Copy Prompt is handy when a sound is almost right: paste the description back on the Generate screen, change one word, and generate a new version.

Not happy with a result? Generate again before you rewrite anything. A second take is often all it needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can an AI sound effect be?

In AI Sound Effects, each sound can be 1 to 12 seconds long. Leave Duration on Auto Duration and the AI picks a length that suits your description, or set it yourself to fit a video cut or a game moment. For a longer scene, generate several sounds, such as rain, thunder, and wind, and combine them in your editor.

Can I get the exact same sound again?

Not by generating it again. AI Sound Effects makes every sound fresh, so the same prompt gives you a new take each time. The sounds you’ve made stay in your Library until you delete them, and you can use Save to Files from the ··· menu to keep a copy outside the app.

Can I use AI sound effects in my videos?

Yes. Sound effects you generate with AI Sound Effects may be used for personal and commercial purposes. Each sound is a WAV file, so use Save to Files or Share from the ··· menu in your Library to move it into your video editor.

Is AI Sound Effects free?

AI Sound Effects is free to try with limited free credits. Pro gives you unlimited sound effects, better sound quality, and no paywalls. The app is available on iPhone from the App Store and on Android from Google Play.
